We extend our sincere gratitude to the Diné College Land Grant Office for hosting the Spring 2025 STEM Festival held on March 24–25, 2025, at the main campus in Tsaile, Arizona. Diné College, the first tribally controlled and accredited collegiate institution in the United States, continues to play a pivotal role in supporting education, research, and community outreach across the Navajo Nation. The STEM Festival is an annual event that brings together K–12 students, educators, and professionals to celebrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through culturally relevant, hands-on learning opportunities.
The two-day festival featured a wide array of STEM experiments and exhibits from regional and national organizations, offering more than 500 students from 11 surrounding schools a chance to engage directly with interactive demonstrations and activities.
The Four Corners Science and Computing Club (4CSCC), established in 2021 and based at Northern Arizona University, participated as a key partner in the festival. 4CSCC is committed to increasing awareness and engagement in scientific computing and digital literacy, particularly among Native American and rural student populations. The club integrates project-based learning, environmental data collection, and culturally relevant curriculum design to support students in developing 21st-century skills and pursuing STEM careers.
During the festival, 4CSCC hosted a series of sessions that introduced participants to core concepts in scientific computing. Students explored environmental monitoring through real-time air quality data and learned how to build and troubleshoot similar projects using microcontrollers and sensors. The sessions emphasized collaborative learning through pair programming, which fostered peer support and boosted engagement. By participating in events like the STEM Festival, 4CSCC continues to strengthen its mission of supporting STEM curriculum innovation across the Navajo Nation and creating inclusive pathways for Indigenous students in science and computing fields.
